Graduation checklist

What you need to do

The next set of graduation ceremonies will take place from 23 July to 1 August 2025. Use the checklist below to make sure you're ready to celebrate your big day.

Registration for our summer 2025 ceremonies has now closed. If you haven't registered a choice of how you would like to graduate, as long as you are eligible, you will automatically graduate in absentia and receive your certificate through the post following our summer ceremonies.

1. Check your ceremony date and time

Each school and department has a specific ceremony date and time, so make sure you check when yours is and make a note of the date.

2. Clear any debts

If you have any outstanding debt owing to the university, you will not be able to graduate. Please review the finance tab in NottinghamHub if you are unsure. You have until 5pm on 4 July 2025 to clear any debts.

3. Register how you'd like to graduate

Registration for our summer 2025 ceremonies has now closed. If you haven't registered a choice of how you would like to graduate, as long as you are eligible, you will automatically graduate in absentia and receive your certificate through the post following our summer ceremonies.

4. Book your free guest tickets

Each graduating student attending a ceremony is guaranteed two free guest tickets, as long as you registered to attend by 12 noon on 13 June. For further details, visit our guest tickets webpage.

5. Hire your gown and hood

Your graduation would not be complete without the traditional gown and hood. Visit our gown webpage for all the details you need to hire your gown and hood.

6. Request a Student Status Letter

If you or your guests require a visa in order to attend graduation, you will need to request a Confirmation of Student Status Letter.

We recommend printing out the email you received inviting you to graduation as proof of your ceremony invitation.

7. Look out for extra guest tickets

Additional guest tickets may be available to purchase from 19 to 27 June. For further details, visit our guest tickets webpage.

8. Prepare for the day

It's important to plan ahead to make the most of your special day. Our on the day webpage contains a step-by-step guide on what to expect, along with timings for each of our ceremony times.

9. Book a nearby restaurant or hotel

Many of our graduating students and guests book a nearby restaurant or hotel to make the most of their special day. You can also explore more things to do in Nottingham and enjoy special offers for our graduates and guests.

10. Plan your photography and merchandise

Visit our photography and merchandise webpage to discover what will be available at your graduation. We know that capturing special moments of your day will be a priority!

11. Book your parking

Graduation parking costs £10 per vehicle and will be valid for the day of your ceremony. Information about how to book parking will be available on our transport and parking webpage closer to the ceremonies.

If you or your guests are blue badge holders, you do not need to pay for parking as long as you display your badge.

Below is a table outlining key graduation deadlines. It is important to be aware of these dates and meet the deadlines to ensure your special day runs smoothly.
